The Cadet section at Romford, widely regarded as the best in Essex, is thriving. Overseen by Head Professional Chris Goddard and his wife Lisa, the section provides access and support for cadets at all stages of their golfing journey.

Cadets at Romford are as young as six, where it's all about having fun. As well learning how to play, they are also taught the rules and etiquette of golf.
As they progress, the club offers a pathway providing them with the opportunity to be the best that they can be.
Several of our Cadets who have followed this pathway are now playing at elite levels, nationally, internationally and professionally.
At RGC we are proud of all of our Cadet's achievements.
However, nothing demonstrates more the strength and depth of the elite level cadets at the Club than winning the Essex Inter Club Scratch Youth Shield three years in succession. The win in 2024 followed success for the RGC Cadets in 2022 & 2023.
Three years can only be matched by Wanstead GC in the 1970's. To win it 4 years in succession would be unprecedented.
There were many highlights for the elite Cadets at the club in 2024, but there were a few notable exceptions.
Edward Linley won the Essex Boys Championship in August and more recently Henry Styles was selected to represent England under 18's for the Home International matches and GB&I in the Jacques Leglise trophy. This was in part reward for winning the West of England Men's Amateur stroke play championship and the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Championships earlier in the year.
After being named the Essex Junior Golfer of the Year in 2023, this year Zoe McLean-Tattan was selected to represent England schools v GB and broke the ladies Romford course record with a gross score of 67 (6 under par).
Very few people can reach elite levels of any sport and while every Cadet is encouraged to be the best they can be, much more emphasis is placed on enjoyment, having fun and respecting each other. The cadets section at RGC caters for all ages and all abilities. Workshops and lessons during the weekend and school holidays provide Cadets with the opportunity to learn the rules and etiquette of golf, whilst at the same time getting their game into shape and making new friends along the way.
