Essex Boys Champion

Congratulations to Romford GC's Edward Linley, winning the 2024 Essex Boys Championship at Boyce Hill GC.

Rounds of 70 & 68 were sufficient to win the 36 hole event, beating his nearest rival by 3 shots.

Edward has been a member of Romford GC since he was 9. His golf continues to go from strength to strength and he is a real asset to the club. He was the Club Champion in 2023 and an integral member of the treble winning Youth Shield team.

Great golf Edward. All at RGC wish you continued success.

International Honours

Played at Conwy GC in Wales, Romford GC's own Henry Styles earned a place in the England under 18 team for the recent Home International matches.

Played across 3 days, the four home nations play each other in both foursomes and singles matches. Henry helped England to victory, top scoring for the team, taking 5 from 6 possible points. He is seen here holding the trophy (front right).

The call up is just reward for a stellar season and follows victories and strong performances in other national and international events.

A full write up of the event and a breakdown of all the matches can be seen on the England Golf website.

May it be the first of many caps Henry.

RGC Youth Shield hat trick

Huge congratulations to our Youth Shield Team, who retained the Essex Inter Club Scratch Youth Shield. The team consisting of Henry Styles, Dylan Hussey, Henry Linley, Edward Linley & Hayden Norman beat a very strong Colchester GC 3.5 - 1.5 in the final at Thorndon Park GC to add to their victories in 2022 & 2023.

The only other team to win the Youth Shield three years in succession was Wanstead GC in the 70's. Good luck to Chris, Lisa and the team defending the trophy in 2025 for an unprecedented 4th year in succession.

'The future of RGC is in safe hands'

More silver for Henry

Just a few weeks after his triumph in the  2024 West of England Men's Amateur stroke play championship, Romford's  Henry Styles triumphed in the  2024 Sir Henry Cooper Junior Championships at Kings Hill GC.

Shooting 13 birdies over the 54 hole competition, Henry finished with a  gross total of 204, 4 under par and beating his nearest rival by 2 shots.

Previously known as the Sir Henry Cooper Masters, it draws a formidable and competitive field, consisting of the world’s finest and skilled golfers under the age of 18.

The  Sir Henry Cooper Junior Championship is an R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking tournament and part of the R&A selection process for Great Britain and Ireland under 18 teams.

'Great golf Henry'.

Success in the Essex Seniors Championship

The   Essex Seniors Championship is open to players over 55 years of age. It is a scratch stroke play competition played over two days and 36 holes.

On day one, Romfords Ian Moore produced a level par 72 to lead the field by 4 shots. Although a healthy lead, on a tough playing course at Bently GC, victory still needed to be closed out, which Ian did superbly on day two, shooting 74 for a 146 total and beating his nearest rival by 3 shots.

With 8 Romford members entering the Championship, it demonstrates the strength in depth the Club has across all age groups. A special mention to  Steve Hazell too, who won the over 70’s category.

‘Yet another proud day for RGC’

Congratulations Henry

Many  congratulations to  Henry Styles, who recently won the  2024  West of England Men’s Amateur stroke play championship  at  Saunton GC. In tough conditions, Henry shot a four round total of 291, including a 68 in round three, to beat a strong field by one shot.

Henry has been a cadet member at Romford GC since he was nine,  and the victory comes a week after he shot a course record equalling 63 at Theydon Bois GC in the  Essex Schools Team Championship

Everyone at Romford GC is very proud of you Henry. We all wish you every success in your golf career and the best of luck when you start your scholarship at the University of San Francisco later in the year.

Congratulations Zoe

Zoe McLean-Tattan with her Essex Junior Golfer of the Year 2023 Award.

Zoe has had a fabulous season including breaking the RGC ladies course record with a gross score of 67 (6 under par) on 15th August.

We are all very proud of you at the club Zoe and wish you continued success in 2024 and beyond.
